6. Financial report – Anne briefed the board in Laurie’s absence (see report for details). No interest on savings balance of $18,882.51. Checking showed three deposits; one re deposit for wrong amount for Half Marathon liquor license, $492.75 for in-library book sales, hat sale, membership, donation box, Englehart prints, Leonard Gallagher semiannual donation, and $47.85 for October in-library book sales and donation box. No further need for Mail Chimp service as a free version is now available to Friends via the library. Total checking balance of $5335.10. Checking and savings together amounts to $24,217.61. Jared talked about a possible donation by Friends of redoing the water lines outside (more later on this subject). Tulli moved and Peggy seconded to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
7. Library Director’s report – (See report for details.) Shaw Solar next year will add 78 solar panels to completely cover annual usage by the library. Thinning out the library’s book collection will be a priority for 2025 to test out new display arrangements which hopefully will lead to more checkouts. A toy swap for families for a gift-making event will take place this month. Jared announced that over $5000 has been raised for the library from movie nights and about $7000 from the Half-Marathon. Appreciation award was given to Ilga for her support of the library – an award which Jared hopes to make an annual event. Jared requested that the outdoor kitchen plastic bins be replaced with stainless steel pans
(sinklike)– two for $149. The year-end fundraiser appeal letter that Friends usually funds will have 100 fewer mailouts this year, though Jared has no exact cost yet. Move to approve purchase of stainless steel pans was made by Cathy and seconded by Tulli. Motion carried. Anne moved to approve funding for year-end mailing up to $3200, which Tulli seconded. Motion carried. Jared will let Laurie know when he gets the invoice so she can reimburse the library.
8. Membership report – (See report for details). One additional donation came from an existing member for a total of 113 memberships/147 people. $4150 from members and their donations has been receiving during this calendar year.
9. Book Maven report – Miriam reported that there were mostly culled books received from the library. There will be plenty of books for another Christmas sale and especially lots of kids books. She advocates being more selective on book donations to the library in future.
10. Old business
Holiday Book Sale – There are still a couple holes in Saturday for volunteering at the book sale, but Amy signed up and maybe a neighbor of Amy’s, also Ilga. Setup covered but teardown not covered – Tulli will help. Sales of books will only by the pound – no bag sales.
Half Marathon Food Booth — Tulli handed out a draft for upgrades to the Half Marathon booth setup and procurement of items. Peggy may be added to provide cookies, as Moon Dog donated considerably far fewer (maybe 3 dozen?) than ABC in the past. One quarter of a box of oranges will probably suffice from Zuma. All else remained the same. (See attached revision.)
11. New business — none
12. Adjourn at 4:48 pm.
Next meeting: January 7, 2025 – Conference Room
