Minutes – April 2, 2018

(as submitted)

Members Present: Joan and Peter Brind’amour, Amy Welden, Koko Smith, Laurie Webster, Tulli Kerstetter

I.    Call to Order  7:05

II.   Minutes of previous meeting looked over and approved

III.  Proxy Votes – none

IV.  Correspondence – Laurie presented a letter from the Mancos Days Association, which is now a nonprofit trying to raise money for Mancos Days, which asked for a donation from Friends.  It was noted that Friends had donated some time ago, but didn’t get the recognition or exposure that we thought we were paying for due to an oversight that was eventually rectified.  Board members present at this meeting agreed not to donate, mainly due to the mission statement of Friends of solely raising money for the library.  The issue, however, was tabled for further discussion next month when some of the more longstanding Board members could supply their input.

V.   Financial report –  Laurie reported that there is $256.95 in savings and $9272.95 in checking for a total balance in March of $9529.90.  Deposits included: Amazon Smile payment, Bearicuda Bins reimbursement of an overcharge, membership donation, books sold to Absolute Book Collection, and a donation from Novel Neighbors Book Club. Expenditures were for security alarm repair, postage stamps, and rental costs for a movie shown at the library. View the full financial report

VI.    Librarian’s report – Lee was absent, therefore no report.

VII.    Old Business – Koko reported that one Englehart card set was sold at ABC.

VIII.    New Business

a. Jersey Jim auction July 7 – tabled for May meeting when Dana could be present.

b. Upcoming May book sale – Setup early Friday morning May 4.  Joan will post flyers and do PSAs for the event.  Friends decided to do a “book box sale”, leaving some smaller boxes with books on tables for browsers, and every fifth book free, in order to get rid of excess books currently in storage and to honor Cinco de Mayo.  Joan will contact Dana to do the Cinco De Mayo Book Sale flyer, Koko will contact Silvia to get signup sheets for volunteers.  Book sale hours will be 11 – 5 Friday May 4, and 10 – 3 on Saturday May 5.

c. Mancos Days Book sale  – Thursday, July 26th, will be the traditional ice cream social for MFOL members’ pre-sale book perusal, with setup in the afternoon of the same day. The regular sale will commence on Friday, July 27th, 10 – 5, and Saturday the 28th after the parade (circa 11 a.m.) until 3. Joan will contact Mancos Days Association to include this event in the calendar.  Amy will contact Dana to reserve the community room for the sale.

d. donor bench update — tabled until next meeting when Silvia could be present.

e. Cowboy half marathon – planning ongoing per last year’s list of donors and contacts.  June 23rd is the marathon.
